Parenting a neurotypical child is an all-consuming role. When our children are more intense or have higher needs, that role can feel totally unmanageable. It is hard to follow any parenting style or technique consistently. It is terrifying when one by one, your best efforts fail to yield the promised results. You find yourself becoming reactive and feeling personally out of control rather than making intentional choices.
Even your best laid plans are frequently thrown off course. You feel like a failure. You throw everything you can muster at the “problem,” only to end up feeling helpless and alone. Your nervous system is constantly on high alert and the very vigilance that is required to parent your child is slowly drowning you. Parenting a high needs child is hard, but you don’t have to go it alone.
Does this sound like your life?
- Your days are filled with unpredictable events.
- You’re continuously thrown off course.
- You’re denied the satisfaction of completing tasks.
- You’re bearing the entire burden of patental responsibilities.
- Your needs come last.
I'm here to Help.
I am not here to tell you how to raise your children or teach you a specific parenting strategy. You are the expert on your child. I am here to help you get back in touch with yourself. You will learn to stay grounded and intentional in your life as a person and a parent. When you can get still and listen to what you need and what you know, you will start to meet challenges from a place of strength and resilience. You’ll even be able to revel in joy along the way. As you re-find yourself and your steadiness and you build self-compassion, you will also find room to see your child as a whole person – warts, super-powers and all. The fear will dissipate, and clarity will grow. You already have what your child needs in a parent, you just need to build your internal resources and your trust in yourself so you can recognize what’s already there.
